Governor's Conference on Volunteerism Challenges Nebraska to be # 1 in the Nation

Barry Kriha, chair of ServeNebraska, the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission, announced that the biennial Governor's Conference on Volunteerism "Taking the Challenge to be the Best" will be held at the Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Omaha-Downtown, 1616 Dodge St., on April 8 and 9. "The conference this year has a double goal," announced Kriha. "Nebraska has ranked second in the nation for the rate of volunteerismfor the past four years, after only Utah. This year's conference is designed to help take us to number 1. We are also offering an opportunity to enhance the skills and abilities of those providing service to make the good life in Nebraska even better."
ServeNebraska has attracted a roster of highly skilled and notable presenters including:
- Aaron Davis, a former Nebraska football player who was on the 1994 championship team. Davis is known as "The Enthusiator" for his motivational message.
- Carol Weisman, an internationally known speaker and author specializes in finding humor in best practices on volunteerism, fund raising and governance.
- Andy Greenberg, whose daily motivational and leadership insights are heard each morning on Omaha's 1110 KFAB Good Morning Show with Gary Sadlemyer.
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle are slated to give welcoming remarks. Nebraska's First Lady, Sally Ganem, honorary chair of ServeNebraska, will preside over the Community Service Awards Luncheon on April 9.
The conference is an important, educational and enjoyable opportunity for those interested in improving the capacity of Nebraska individuals and organizations to better meet community needs.
