Published: 4/12/2010

Apply by Monday, May, 10, to participate in Leadership Omaha, a 10-month program that develops community leaders through educational seminars and interaction with business and civic leaders. View an application.

Leadership Omaha is a program of the Greater Omaha Chamber and one of the longest-running community leadership programs in the nation.

"Leadership Omaha is an essential tool for young professionals looking to make an immediate difference in our community,' said Jay Palu, an architect at DLR Group. "I graduated with a renewed passion for Omaha and refined vision of my own responsibility to the community. The curriculum is unmatched in its potential to affect the future success of the young professional community."

Program goals:

  • Communication - provide opportunities for communication among emerging and established leaders.
  • Awareness - develop participant awareness of the Greater Omaha community, its problems, challenges, and opportunities, by examining the major systems and the interrelationships that contribute to patterns of life in the city.
  • Leadership - explore the aspects of leadership and help participants identify and enhance their own leadership styles with emphasis on the community perspective.
  • Motivation - create an environment in which participants are motivated to develop a sense of community trusteeship and encouraged to assume leadership roles in community affairs.

The program selection committee will pick 43 to 48 participants based on their desire to contribute time and energy toward serving the community, prior community volunteer involvement, an interest and understanding of the Omaha community, and demonstrated professional growth and leadership. The selection committee ensures the class reflects the diversity of the community-at-large.

Applications are due Tuesday, May 11. Tuition is $1,950, with limited scholarship assistance available.
